Returns Policy

BuyHappyThings.com is a marketplace of independent sellers. Each seller sets their own return policy within the limits described here. This page explains how returns work for both buyers and sellers.

1. Seller Return Policies

Each seller may choose to accept or not accept change-of-mind returns. This should be clearly stated in the listing. Sellers may offer return windows of 7, 14, 30, or 60 days from the delivery date.

If no return policy is stated in the listing, the default is that change-of-mind returns are not accepted. The seller is still required to accept returns for items that are materially not as described — those are handled through our Cases Policy, not this policy.

2. Change-of-Mind Returns

If a seller accepts change-of-mind returns and you wish to return an item:

  • Message the seller through our messaging system within the seller's stated return window. Explain that you wish to return the item.
  • The seller must respond within 48 hours with return instructions.
  • You are responsible for return shipping costs on change-of-mind returns. Ship the item using a carrier with tracking.
  • The item must be returned in the same condition as received — unmodified, with all original parts and packaging included. Items returned in worse condition than received may result in a reduced refund at the seller's discretion.
  • Once the seller confirms receipt of the item in acceptable condition, a refund will be issued within 5 business days to your original payment method.

Original shipping charges are not refunded on change-of-mind returns.

3. Items Not as Described

If an item you received is materially different from its listing description — wrong scale, wrong manufacturer, undisclosed damage, or missing parts — this is handled through our Cases Policy, not through the seller's voluntary return policy. In these situations:

  • A successful Case may require you to return the item before a full refund is issued.
  • The seller is responsible for return shipping costs when a Case is decided in the buyer's favor. BuyHappyThings.com will coordinate return shipping with the seller.
  • Items that are significantly not as described do not need to be returned in the seller's stated return window — Cases may be opened within 180 days of purchase.

4. Non-Returnable Items

The following items are not eligible for change-of-mind returns:

  • Items listed as "as-is," "for parts," or "not working" where the condition was clearly disclosed in the listing.
  • Items that have been modified, damaged, or used beyond a reasonable inspection after receipt.
  • Custom or made-to-order items (if applicable).

Even non-returnable items are still covered by our Cases Policy if they are materially not as described.

5. International Returns

Buyers returning items from outside the United States are responsible for all return shipping costs, customs fees, and duties. BuyHappyThings.com does not reimburse international return shipping costs except where a Case has been decided in the buyer's favor and the seller has agreed to cover those costs.

6. Refund Timing

Once a return is accepted and the item is confirmed as received by the seller, refunds are processed to the original payment method:

  • Credit or debit card: typically 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
  • PayPal: typically 3–5 business days.

7. Seller Obligations

If you accept returns as a seller, you must:

  • State your return policy clearly in each listing.
  • Respond to return requests within 48 hours.
  • Process refunds within 5 business days of receiving the returned item in acceptable condition.
  • Not impose return conditions beyond what is stated here — for example, you may not require buyers to pay a restocking fee or return items in packaging you did not originally provide.

Failure to honor your stated return policy may result in BuyHappyThings.com issuing a refund on your behalf and recovering it from a future payout.
